Part of a series of videos exposing the funny stupidity of creationists and why they deserve to be laughed at. In each case the creationist statements are shown to be outrageously stupid by even the most rudimentary knowledge of science.
In this episode it is shown how little the creationists know about information, and what it does for civilization. It is also highlighted how the creationist organization The Discovery Institute has dropped the term 'intelligent design' in their latest video, where they do not utter it once. Creationists are ultimately antisocial polluters of the fountain of knowledge at the heart of our civilization. They are willing to do anything, including pissing in the fountain of knowledge itself to try to discredit the discoveries of mankind that conflict with their bronze age religions. |

The Ulster Troubles (Part 17 of 24)
![]() |
Aciklama: The Troubles consisted of about 30 years of repeated acts of intense violence between elements of Northern Ireland's Nationalist community (principally Roman Catholic) and Unionist community (principally Protestant). The conflict was caused by the disputed status of Northern Ireland within the United Kingdom, and the alleged domination of the minority nationalist community, and discrimination against, by the unionist majority. The violence was characterised by the armed campaigns of paramilitary groups. Most notable of these was the Provisional IRA campaign 1969--1997 which was aimed at the end of British rule in Northern Ireland and the creation of a new all-Ireland Irish Republic. In response to this campaign and the perceived erosion of the British character and unionist domination of Northern Ireland, loyalist paramilitaries such as the UVF and UDA launched their own campaigns against the nationalist population. The state security forces - the British Army and the police (the Royal Ulster Constabulary) - were also involved in the violence. The British government point of view is that its forces were neutral in the conflict and trying to uphold law and order in the North. Irish republicans, however, regarded the state forces as "combatants" in the conflict and point to evidence of repeated collusion between the state forces and the loyalists as proof of this.
Alongside the violence, there was a political deadlock between the major political parties in Northern Ireland, including those who condemned violence, over the future status of Northern Ireland and the form of government there should be within Northern Ireland.
The Troubles were brought to an uneasy end by a peace process which included the declaration of ceasefires by most paramilitary organisations, the corresponding withdrawal of most troops from the streets and the reform of the police, as agreed by the signatories to the Belfast Agreement (commonly known as the Good Friday Agreement). This reiterated the long-held position that Northern Ireland will remain within the United Kingdom until a majority votes otherwise. It also established a devolved power-sharing government within Northern Ireland (currently suspended), where the government must consist of both unionist and nationalist parties.
Though the number of active participants in the Troubles was relatively small, and the paramilitary organisations that claimed to represent the communities were sometimes unrepresentative of the general population, the Troubles touched the lives of most people in Northern Ireland on a daily basis, while occasionally spreading to Great Britain and the Republic of Ireland. In addition at several times between 1969 and 1998, for example in 1972, after the Bloody Sunday, or during the Hunger Strikes of 1981, when there was mass, hostile mobilisation of the two communities and it seemed possible that the Troubles would escalate into a genuine civil war. Many people today have had their political, social and communal attitudes and perspectives shaped by the Troubles. |

I'm too lazy to compress the avi to make it a more manageable file size and whatnot so most segments are only about 5 minutes long each. The whole movie is uploaded on here, however. |

These and several other issues all have to be resolved. Given that opportunities are expanding and the state has greater economic possibilities now, affordable housing will definitely be one of the priorities for development. You rightly drew attention to the mortgage system. It is the most promising system. This does not mean that the state will forget about social housing we will continue to build social housing. Incidentally, state funding for housing for World War II invalids will increase many-fold as from next year. I want to stress the size of this increase. I think we had allocated only 200 million roubles to this item this year, but next year budget financing for this will be increased to 3 billion roubles. I would like to draw the veterans organisations attention to this decision.
Coming back to mortgages, there are several issues to be resolved in this area. First, we will add to the Mortgage Loan Agencys charter capital and will start by allocating around 15 million roubles 14.8 million, I think for state guarantees for these loans. The government expects that this should make it possible to extend the term of loans from 7-8 years as it is at the moment to 20-25 or even 30 years.
Second, this should help to make mortgage loans cheaper. This year only around 40,000 mortgage loans have been made, but we expect that by 2008-2010, more likely 2010, the number of mortgage loans made each year will be at least 1 million.
As part of the programme for rural areas and for young families, we plan to subsidise the interest costs of mortgage loans and make state funds available so that people can add their own money to the funds received and either buy an apartment straight away or use these state funds as a subsidy in order to make the initial payment on a mortgage loan. We plan to do this on a differing scale for the different regions. In some regions people will be able to receive up to fifty percent in the form of a state subsidy and the other fifty percent will either come from their own funds or from a loan. In some places, above all in rural areas and depressed regions, there will be 100-percent subsidies that will give people the possibility of being tenant in the property with the right to later buy it. This will concern depressed regions and the rural areas, young families and specialists in rural areas. That is a general outline of the programme.
YEKATERINA ANDREYEVA: Thank you, Izhevsk.
Our Direct Line continues. Just a few seconds ago, the operators told me that 38,000 questions have now been registered via the Internet. Now we go over to the call centre.
SERGEI BRILYOV: Yes, we will come back to the Internet a little later. Now lets go over to Natalya Seminikhina. So, Natalya, are the SMS messages coming in with smiles or without?
NATALYA SEMINIKHINA: Its a mixture. Our centre is working at peak capacity just now 250 people are trying to call every second and 65,000 questions have already been processed since the beginning of the broadcast. In total, we so far have 910,000 questions for the President. Lets try to take a caller right now with one of these questions.
